Casting your Fly Tips

Casting without landing the fly on the water is known as 'false casting', and may be used to pay out line, Casts are made to spots where fish are likely to hold, such as pools and pockets in streams.

Also to dry a soaked fly, or to reposition a cast. Once on the water, the fly may either float or sink, depending on the type of fly and the style of fishing. Other casts are the roll cast, the single, or double-haul, the tuck cast, and the side, or curve-cast.

I used to spend hours Fly Casting where i lived in a large field to get the hang of positioning, also this allowed me to learn to long cast and short cast, you can take lessons that are tailored to your level of proficiency from beginner to experienced. If fishing for Pickerel always Cast into shallow waters at first.

    Fly Fishing Flies

Most Flies that are Made to look like bait fish usually have long wings down the sides of their bodies. Then there are Flies that are created to look like a large variety of insects,

With these you would Include Stoneflies, beetles, grasshoppers, mayflies, willowflies, and crickets, among Many others. Flies weigh very little. The fly is usually attached to the line by a leader that is two to three meters in length (6 to 9 feet).

Creating your own Flies is a very good way to understand what the fish is looking for, and the more you create them the better you will understand how they work on the water.

Fly Fishing using Marmite or Vegemite

Have you ever tried fishing with Marmite/Vegemite, This really does bring in the carp in.

I'm still not sure why this works so well but the usual diet for carp is worms and Snails, maybe its a mixture of flavours that release into the stream that drives them to taking the bait.

Not sure also who idea it was to try Marmite for carp, but it certainly has them jumping into my net.

I wanted to try with other strong flavoured mixes, just to see if I get any better reaction from carp, I have tried Smoked Bacon strips this had a great result but not as good as Marmite or Vegemite if your Australian.

Well at least its Earth friendly (Green) without the colour, so no harm done to the environment.
